By plane If you’re coming from far away, you’ll probably want to fly into Puerto Vallarta’s international airport. There are a number of hotels conveniently located near the City’s airports.
By bus For some travelers, especially those coming from other nearby regions, such as Guadalajara, buses are an affordable and convenient travel option. Puerto Vallarta enjoys service from several companies with ETN being the most popular and comfortable bus service in the region.
Puerto Vallarta is an excellent walking city, and getting around by foot is the best way to familiarize yourself with neighborhoods and their (sometimes subtle) divisions. Of course, sometimes you’ll need to move more quickly or cover great distances, for which we have buses, taxis, and UBER in Puerto Vallarta.
City Buses
Puerto Vallarta city buses can take you anywhere you need to go for $10 pesos (.60 cents USD). Many of the buses are new and have been introduced into service in 2018 and include air conditioning.
Taxis
Foreigners will always get the shaft from Taxi drivers, although even getting shafted you will probably think the taxi fare is pretty cheap, so most tourists won’t complain. However, if you are one who doesn’t like to pay more money for services simply because of your nationality, taxi drivers are required to carry a rate card that will tell you the rates from one section of the city to the other. They don’t display this information, you need to ask to see the rates.
UBER
UBER is available in Puerto Vallarta and sometimes works best for tourists because the drivers use GPS, they know where you are going before they pick you up, and you know the cost before you confirm the ride. It also makes things easier if your Spanish needs a little work, UBER already knows all the details and the routes before they arrive to pick you up, so communication isn’t a problem. It’s a win-win for everyone. UBER is highly recommended over taxi use.
