Playa de Los Muertos is located south of the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta and the Cuale river, in the Romantic Zone. Here you can find great hotels, such as the Hotel Emperador Vallarta, or popular LGBT hotel The Blue Chairs. You will also find a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, galleries and clothing stores among other attractions.
There are plenty of restaurants on Los Muertos Beach that offer lounge chairs, and some even offer towels, to customers for the afternoon. Many will allow you to stay as long as you wish, as long as you are a paying customer.
Los Muertos Beach is the liveliest beach in Puerto Vallarta and a great place to people watch. You will find many activities in this stretch of beach, including jet skis, parasailing, banana boats, and more.
The southern end of Los Muertos Beach is popular with the LGBT travelers.
Los Muertos Beach is a great activity beach and the water is suitable for taking dips in the Bay of Banderas to cool off, however, the name Los Muertos isn’t just a name. Los Muertos means The Dead in Spanish and the name of the beach comes from its strong undertow (rip current). It’s not recommended for children or adults who cannot swim or are not strong swimmers. Don’t attempt to head out where your feet do not touch the ground. The water can also have many sharp rocks, water shoes are a good idea. If you like the beaches for swimming and calmer waves to enjoy the day in the water, head to the beaches north or south of downtown Puerto Vallarta where the currents are calmer and the water is more clear. If you love to parasail, jetski, boogie board, play volleyball, and other beach activities, then Los Muertos Beach is the place for you!
